| Sanctuary is a
Los Angeles-based pansexual organization comprised of people of all
genders, sexual identity and sexual orientation who have an interest in
the exchange of power within The BDSM and Leather Lifestyle. The
purpose of the organization is to provide a supportive environment for
it's members to learn, understand and practice the art of safe, sane
and consensual Power Exchange between consenting adults.
Sanctuary, as an organization, strives to promote awareness of the B/D, D/s and S/M lifestyles through education and understanding by providing social and educational opportunities such as Munches, Socials, Play Parties, Seminars, Discussions and Workshops for it's members, although many events are open to non-members as well. Sanctuary is not a sex club or dating service, so please look elsewhere if that is your interest. However, if you believe that BDSM and/or that Power Exchange between consenting adults is a healthy means of self-expression, then this organization is what you have been looking for. Mistress Cyan and Sanctuary have been a member of The Los Angeles Leather Coalition since 2005 and actively support the coalition members in their efforts and events. Mistress Cyan was awarded the prestigious 2006 Pantheon of Leather Community Choice Woman Award and The 2006 Southland Honors Fundraiser of The y=Year Award to name just a few o many. Sanctuary has been nominated as Organization of The Year in The Sothland Honors and Business of The Year in The 2007 Pantheon of Leather Awards. Sanctuary's roots date back to December, 2000 when Mistress Cyan began making plans to host an exclusive BDSM Lifestyle-Oriented Play Party. The concept of Sanctuary was to host a pansexual event in a safe and sane environment where consenting adults in the Lifestyle Community would feel comfortable exploring and expressing their BDSM interests.Mistress Cyan, a Professional Dominatrix who has been in The Lifestyle since 1989 and who is also transsexual, understood the importance of creating an environment where everyone would feel "accepted" rather than "tolerated". She decided to host the play parties in her professional dungeon Sanctuary, a 1200 square foot fully equipped facility with four separate play rooms. The play parties were private, not open to the public and admission was by invitation only. What started as an event became a tradition with the play parties being held every weekend ever since. The Lifestyle Community has embraced the warm and friendly atmosphere of Sanctuary and many in The Community now consider Sanctuary their "home". So when this group was formed, it seemed only fitting that the name of Sanctuary be adopted as the moniker for the group. Mistress Cyan and Sanctuary are very active in Fndraising for The Leather Community. Each year, Mistress Cyan and Sanctuary produces a Thanksgiving and Christmas Slave Auction to collect food and toys for the needy. The efforts of the organization resulted in 32,000 people having been fed that would not have been otherwise, and in 2006, nore than $7000 in food, blankets, toys and cash were collected and donated to MCC in The Valley. Sanctuary has also produced fundraisers for The LALC, The Red Cross, The Katrina Victims, Cancer Research and more. Mistress Cyan and Sanctuary is looking forward to working with our Titleholder in 2007 !!! |
